This is an image series born from a drive along the small coastal road that encircles the island of Oahu. We stopped numerous times (to my families increasing annoyance) while I photographed the exhilarating waves and the majestic clouds that decorated our view. We soon came across a small roadside shell vendor peddling his wares, and I couldn't resist collecting some! Back home, I began processing my images and the idea began emerging, of bringing all the elements from that wonderful drive, the waves, the clouds, the shells and that tropical feeling, into a series of images.Each image features a shell (or the seahorse too) against a backdrop made up of unique but similar billowing clouds and cresting ocean waves. I added some graphic elements from old nautical maps and botanical illustrations. Then I overlaid them with a rich, warm patina of textures and tones, fully expressing that beautiful, free, tropical feeling we experienced on that drive.

My wish is that these images, one or all, will resonate with you in the same way and provide your living area with a window through which you might see those clouds or feel that ocean breeze, and recapture that glorious feeling.
